One of the most common functions that users use in the editor of Joomla is inserting a link into an article or a module. Inserting a link into Joomla can be done in just a few sets.

Inserting a Link

From within the article editor, highlight the text that wish to make linkable, and click the Insert / Edit Link button

link1

A pop up window will appear. Type the link URL in this window. Choose a target for you link. If you are linking to an external website outside of your own, it's always a good idea to make the target "Open link in a new window", so that your website continues to remain open on the viewers browser.

Click Insert and then Save your article.

link2

If you wish to disable the link, just highlight the linked text, and click the Unlink button. This will delink the text for you.

An anchor is a point in your article or item that jumps to another point on the same page. For instance, you may have a long article with many sub-headings. Towards the top of your page, you might list your sub-headings and have them jump or 'link' to the relevant paragraph further down the page when clicked.

Anchors on a website are similar to a contents page in a book or magazine.

To insert an anchor point in your article:

  1. Open the Item you wish to add an anchor to:
    K2 > Items > selected Item
  2. Locate and select a point next to the text or image you wish to use as the anchor.
    e.g.
    Courtroom1
  3. Select the Insert/edit Anchor button on the JC Editor.
  4. Enter Anchor name and select Insert. An anchor icon will now appear in front of the selected text:

  5. To create a link to your anchor, highlight the text you wish to use as the line.
    e.g.
    Courtroom 1
  6. Select the Insert/edit link button on the JC Editor.

  7. Select the Anchor drop down menu under Attributes and click on the specified anchor.
    name: e.g. Courtroom1

  8. Select Update. The anchor link will now be displayed in the Item text.
Clicking the Cancel button closes the screen without inserting an anchor.

If your site is using DocMan to manage all of its documents then the easiest way to link to all of these documents is to use the advanced link manager within the editor to browse to these documents that are stored within the system and the website.

  1. Once again, highlight some text and click on the insert/edit link icon from the tool bar.

  2. When the advanced link window appears, click on the DocMan icon from the display menu. Clicking on the + sign will expand the structure of your DocMan file system.
  3. Navigate through the file structure until you find the file that you need to link to.
  4. Click on the document and the editor will generate the required code to link to the DocMan document.
  5. Click insert and then save your article
