What Are Extensions?

When you install and start using Joomla there are many features built into it that make your site useful from, content editing and management to user controls and now access control levels in Joomla 1.6.

To extend Joomla's core functionality, there are extensions available for web administrators to install and configure in their Joomla websites.

These extensions allow for an also unlimited number of new functions that can be added onto Joomla's core list of functions.

 

There are four main types of extensions that you can obtain and install for Joomla.

  1. Components
  2. Modules
  3. Plugins
  4. Templates

Some common extensions for Joomla include, backup extensions, forums, commenting systems, event calendars and document management systems.

To find more extensions to increase your website functionality, please visit, http://extensions.joomla.org. Here you will find a over 5500+ extensions available for Joomla. There you will find a huge list of components, modules and plugins.

Templates on the other hand can be found a specialised template shops such as JoomlArt and Rockettheme.
